Winter Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd @ Springfield, MA

Performers: Winter Brothers, Lynyrd Skynyrd, Tuff Darts
Date: August 24, 1976
Venue: Springfield Civic Center
cost of ticket: $7

Well right after their buddy Rick Derringer leaves the venue, in comes the Winter Brothers. I have been a Johnny Winter fan now for a few years, so it is a treat to see him with his Brother Edgar. I can't recall much about this show. Perhaps I was wishing that Rick had stayed around, and joined them on stage. . . Say what you will, Edgar is a fine musician, and his varied training and range added luster to this show.

What a treat to see Lynyrd Skynyrd - an entire stagefull of musicians. These guys were all about a fine live performance with high energy and lots of guitar solos.

Did you see this concert? If so, please leave your memories, comments, thoughts and ideas . . .

I remember that the opening band Tuff Darts (a Punk-A-Billy combo featuring singer Robert Gordon) did not get a warm reception. It got fairly hostile with the crowd and stuff got thrown at them. I recall Gordon actually pulled out a switchblade knife and taunted the crowd before the band left the stage...needless to say this was a short set.....Skynyrd were great and played all of their best tunes and it was unbelievable that a year later they would suffer great losses in the 1977 plane crash...
